Eat blueberries– As of June 2008 the research on blueberries seems to confirm it’s one of those super foods you should eat whenever you can. It counters the dark side of oxygen, patrolling the bloodstream for free-radicals (malevolent, catalytic particles related to the digestive process and the state of rancidity). Food guru Michael Pollan tells us to eat “real food” and this is definitely one of them. Its taste is one of those elemental perceptions, like a primary color. There doesn’t seem to be a down side, having made the list of foods that tend to be low in pesticides: 1. Pineapples 2. Plantains 3. Mangoes 4. Bananas 5. Watermelon 6. Plums 7. Kiwi Fruit 8. Blueberries 9. Papaya 10. Grapefruit; (Vegetables: 1. Avocado 2. Cauliflower 3. Brussels Sprouts 4. Asparagus 5. Radishes 6. Broccoli 7. Onions 8. Okra 9. Cabbage 10. Eggplant). Blueberry season runs from late June to September. An article by Matt and Ted Lee from the New York Times: “...but in the end, what makes blueberries irresistible is their taste. A fistful of fresh berries might be the most expedient way to experience them, but cooking with them, for those who can defer gratification, can intensify their flavor. Heating blueberries moderately with a little water and sugar makes a simple, versatile sauce. After a few minutes on the flame, the berries redden and liquefy, reducing to a vivid blueberry concentrate, delicious drizzled over vanilla ice cream or a pound cake.” http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B01E6DF1E3CF93AA3575BC0A...
